The Atlantic Sailfish- Captain Wayne's favorite.
This one is the most spectacular fish in the ocean to catch and release. The Sailfish are off the southeast coast of Florida year-round, however they are not usually a targeted species during the summer months because they tend to be scattered all over the Gulfstream, that being said we do catch'em year-round. The average size is about 50 pounds and fish up to 75 pounds are caught on a regular basis. The Sailfish will begin showin up all along the South Florida East Coast in October/November. The best time to catch and release a Sailfish on the Treasure Coast of Florida is November, December and January. This is prime time with packs of Sailfish migrating South to warmer waters, it's not unusual to catch and release 5 or 10 Sailfish on a fishin charter off the coast of Stuart Florida. Although not as plentiful, February can be an excellent month as well.
The Reel Busy primarily uses live bait, 3 different methods will be used pending conditions. The Run & Gun method is used to locate the fish when the seas are mild, we can cover allot of area at 35 to 40 miles an hour. We look for Sailfish, Baitballs and Birds pitchin live baits to the fish we locate. The Slow-Trolling method with live baits will be used along current edges or any area that looks fishy, if there's birds or bait there'll be fish. The most exciting method to catch a Sailfish is Kite-fishing, either slow-trolling or drifting. The kite is used to suspend the live bait on the surface kickin and splashin, this requires a 10 to 20 mph wind and is reely exciting. Sailfish stalking and then crashin the kite baits is one of the most awesome sights you'll ever see.
The Reel Busy is a Sailfishin Machine, the open style boat allows each angler to follow their fish 360 degrees around the boat which is reely nice when you have multiple Sailfish hooked-up and dancing all around the boat, your gonna love it !
